Bookmaking From Binding To Journaling With Tessa McSorley     $45.00

This class is not currently scheduled.

Have you ever wanted to make your very own journal or sketchbook? If so, then this class is perfect for you!

Learn to create a book bound onto tapes made of ribbon with my simple method that is not only fun but also easy to remember for future use! We will customize your covers with collage, and I値l teach you my secret method of antiquing paper and fabric to give your covers a vintage feel. In the last class, I will give you tons of original ideas for some fun ways to fill up your books with art and writing!

This is a 4-lesson class that is geared toward beginners, but all levels are welcome. Beware: once you take this class, bookbinding is sure to become your latest obsession!

Week 1: Preparation and Pages. We will talk about page size, and I値l teach you how to get a pretty deckled edge by tearing your pages down to size. We値l discuss the proper way to fold paper with a bone folder, stack the papers into signatures (a small grouping of nested pages), and we will get them marked and ready for sewing. We'll also talk about pre-decorating a few of our pages and the possibility of including special embellishments within our stacks, such as tissue papers, fabric, or anything else you can think of!

Week 2: Sewing and Book Assembly, Part 1. First, we値l create sewing stations by measuring, marking, and poking holes with awls. I値l show you a few tricks I致e learned along the way to make things easier! Then we値l talk about how much thread you will need to sew your book, and we値l choose and prepare our cloth tapes. Finally, we will learn the process of sewing the tapes onto book and binding our book block together. I think you will love this method of sewing and constructing your book!

Week 3: Decorating the Covers and Book Assembly, Part 2. We値l start by cutting the chipboard for our covers, and then we will cover the board with fabric and/or images. I will share my technique for antiquing paper and fabric, and we will talk about collage and how to compose a pretty cover for our books. After the covers are dry, we will attach them to the tapes/bound pages of the book block. Now the book is assembled, and it is just waiting for your words and images!

Week 4: Art and Writing Prompts. Together, we will fill our book up with personality and creativity! I will share 18 of my favorite art prompts and 18 of my favorite writing prompts, all of which are very unique and fun for artists of all levels. I値l show you pictures and examples from my own journals to get you going and ready to create. These inspiring ideas should help get you started, and your book will be full in no time at all!

I think you池e going to love making a book from scratch and filling it with inspiration!
