Note: October 23, 2004. The challenge is
over, but you can see the masks that were entered in the challenge
by clicking

Magical Mask Challenge Rules
You must purchase a kit to
participate in the Magical Mask challenge. The kit is available in two
colors based on the batik fabric - either copper/purple or
teal/pastels. The
beads and fibers for each kit were selected to coordinate with the fabric.
Photos of the kits are
located toward the bottom of this page. The kits cost $24,
plus shipping.
For this challenge you MUST use the mask pattern
and the fabric which are included in the kit. I've
included enough fabric for both the front and back of the mask and
there is also enough Timtex for you to stabilize both the front and
back of the mask. You must use the fabric on both the
front and the back of the mask. You may choose to substitute another
stabilizer instead of the Timtex and may assemble the mask however
you choose. The only absolutes are that you must use the
pattern without altering it and you must use the fabric in the kit.
The rest is up to you! Embellish the mask using the beads and
fibers in the kit or don't use them at all. You may add
anything you can think of to the mask.
There will be two prizes awarded:
Best Use of Embellishments and a Viewer's Choice Award. The
prize for each is a $35 gift certificate that you may use to
purchase any item, except classes, at joggles. One entry may
not win both prizes. In the event that the Viewer's Choice
voting selects the winner of the Best Use of Embellishments winner,
then the second place Viewer's Choice entrant will be
awarded the prize.
I've not yet asked anyone to judge the Best Use of
Embellishments. If you have a suggestion I'd love to hear it!
I reserve the right to make the final decision as to who will judge
the that category.
Voting for the Viewer's Choice
award will be limited to one vote per person.
You may enter more than one mask, but you are only
permitted to win one of the two categories. I want to keep it
fair for everyone.
The challenge will run for roughly 12 weeks.
All entries must be in my hands (or inbox!) by October 17, 2004.
Winners will be announced 10 to 14 days week post October 17th.
Please submit your entry by sending photos to me.
Please, please, please send clear, crisp, easily viewable photos.
You can't win if your photos are unclear, dark, or grainy. The
viewers and judge need to be able to see your entry! I reserve
the right to crop or edit your photos as required.

contents:

Teal/Pastels

One note about the fabric: Batik
fabrics by their nature vary in color. The colors blend into
one another and swirl over the length and width of the fabric.
The fabric in the kits is about 7" x 22" and only represents a
small segment of the "repeat" of the colors in the fabric. The
piece of fabric you receive may not look like exactly the fabric in
these photos!
Santa Magic Challenge Rules
You will need a Santa Magic pattern to make the doll
or Christmas Tree. You can buy the pattern wherever you like,
however you can only buy the pattern with the alternate directions
to make the Santa Christmas Tree at joggles. The pattern costs $7.
On August 18, 2004 the alternate directions will no longer be
available with the pattern purchase at joggles.
You are free to make Santa Magic as the basic doll or
as the alternate Santa Christmas Tree. You may embellish or
decorate the doll/tree however you wish.
Colors/fabrics/embellishments/altering the basic pattern are all ok!
