The Story of the Goblin Princess
A long time ago
in the deep forests of Stonehurst lived an evil race of Goblins
called the Uruksis. An elf king of the Green Elves took it upon
himself to change these creatures by sending his fairest daughter to
live among them. The Goblins were smitten by her beauty and set her
up as their Princess. The Goblins changed with only an occasional
slip and then it was just minor acts of mischief.
In this challenge a beautiful princess is made using doilies for her
clothing. Doilies make the most whimsical clothes. It will be up to
you to use these doilies to create a unique outfit fitting for the
princess. The doll itself can be made from various fabrics – batik,
100% cotton, 100% silk, etc.

The Rules
-
You must purchase a kit to participate in the
challenge. Click
here to go to the kit.
-
You must
use some of the three doilies and/or the Venise lace that is supplied with the
kit. The other kit items are optional.
-
You may add
any additional items that you wish.
-
Your Goblin
Princess must have a staff or scepter of some sort. You don't
have to sculpt a head for it - the scepter can take any form you
wish.
-
Your Goblin
Princess can be any color you'd like. I have deliberately
provided neutral colored embellishments and items that are easy to
dye to allow you as much creative latitude as possible. Go
crazy with color, keep her neutral colored, or do whatever feels
right for your version of the doll.
-
You may enter your
doll in only one of the two judged categories - either Best Use
of Doilies or Best Interpretation of the Goblin Princess
Theme. In the event that your doll wins its category and
is voted as the Viewer's Choice your doll will win the category
only. The second place doll in the Viewer's Choice voting will
win the prize.
-
You may enter more
than one doll, but you cannot win both categories. I want to
keep this fair for everyone.
-
Patti will judge
both the Best Use of Doilies or Best Interpretation of the Goblin
Princess Theme categories.
-
The challenge
begins on December 12, 2004 and ends on April 1, 2005.
All photos MUST be sent to me via email on or before April
1, 2005. Please, please, please send clear,
crisp, easily viewable photos. You can't win if your
photos are unclear, dark, or grainy. The viewers and Patti
need to be able to see your entry! I reserve the right to crop
or edit your photos as required.
If you wish to enter your doll in the Best
Interpretation of Theme category, remember the story of The
Goblin Princess. Your doll should keep (within reason) to the
story that Patti created. If you want to expand on the story
you are free to do so as long as you create a Goblin Princess doll.
The Best Use of Doilies category will be
judged based on the originality and creativity of the use of doilies
to create the Goblin Princess' clothing. Here's your chance to show
off your stuff, so jump in and be inventive, creative, and let your
imagination run wild!
