Because the paint is highly pigmented you can add water to create a trasnparent wash and the paint maintains its integrity.
This glaze was created by mixing gloss Multi Medium with Modern Red paint. You get a transparent glaze without using a bunch of water which can wrinkle thinner pages like this one taken fro a dictionary. The shiny areas you see on the page are because I used the gloss version. Use the matte for a flat finish.
Using Multi Medium as a resist with the large flower from the Bloom foam stamp set. **PLEASE NOTE - I forgot to say this in the video, but you have to wash the Multi Medium off the stamp right away, otherwise it will dry on the stamp which you don't want! Modern red paint was washed over one the Multi Medium was dry. If you want to remove the thin wash of paint from the design be sure to wipe with a damp paper towel before the paint dries. Or leave it for that muted look!
This stamp is also from the Bloom foam stamp set. Same technique - easy, easy, easy!
Another example using different colors and the smaller flower from the Bloom set along with the larger one.
Here's the transfer that I demoed in the video. As I said, you can do the same thing with either of the Multi Mediums if you want no color - the choice is yours. Remember, you have to use a toner based copy (think a laser printer or copy machine) and not inkjet copies. See the hazy area in the center? Some paper still remains, which is what causes that look. Spritz with water, let it set a moment, and gently rub it off. What I like about using the paint is that you can color the image however you wish to give it a unique look.
Ooops. I got a little overzealous and rubbed the toner right off the page. It may be that there was not enough paint on that small section or that it had dried before I applied it to the page. Either would have caused the paint and toner to come up once I began to rub.
In the video I mentioned that it's important to trim away all of the paper. This one was transferred using Pastel Yellow paint with a tin bit of Modern Red that I accidently mixed off the craft sheet and if you look where the arrow is pointing you can see the yellow color there. If I'd cut that part away before adding paint and applying the image to the surface the background white of the page would be there instead. Something to think about as you decide what parts of the image you want to transfer.
Modern Red and Purple Palette make a pretty violet color. Mixing is simple and easy, so give it a try. You'll be amazed at what you can do!
Tints and shades. As simple as adding white and black! Think of all of the new colors you can create simply by creating tints and shades... |
