S U P P L I E S We have a kit that contains enough canvas fabric, Warm & Natural batting, cotton velveteen, SF101 stabilizer, Misty Fuse, and Venise lace to make one wall hanging. All you have to add are your choice of colors to paint those items, Model Magic, and a few other bits. If you prefer to buy these items individually, just click on each one. Other items I used include Color Wash sprays or Dye-na-Flow to paint the fabrics ** Lumiere paint ** stiff bristle brush ** size 12 Finca Perle cotton if you want to add stitching such as I did ** Rubber stamps to impress designs in Model Magic ** Beads ** Mother of Pearl buttons P A T T E R N for the center arched piece of batting and the heart can be found here. You'll need to tear your canvas fabric to 9" x 13" and the cotton velveteen to 4 1/2" x 6".
Here's the completed wall hanging. The background is painted canvas fabric. The center cathedral arched top piece is Warm & Natural batting that I painted. I used a feather stitch up both sides of the batting and added some beads. Those are Mother of Pearl buttons up the outside edges of the painted canvas. I tore/cut little pieces of canvas fabric and dry brushed Lumiere paint on them, then glued the buttons on. The dangles off the bottom of the pink cotton velveteen are circles I cut, added color to then used a leafing pen on the edges. I strung them on with Finca Perle cotton. If you want to learn how to paint Venise lace check out the video tutorial here. It's super easy and how I painted the lace across the top of the wall hanging.
These are the pieces I painted in the video. To see how to paint the Warm & Natural batting, see the bonus video at the bottom of this page.
This is another piece of canvas. I love how the sizing causes the paint to splotch and gather in the folds.
Painted MistyFuse prior to fusing it to the cotton velveteen.
Here's the fused version. I like using MistyFuse since it's a more open web than something like Wonder Under. I think it gives a nice result.
A closeup look at the center heart. I used a piece of Scratch Foam to print the heart on the fabric. That was done after the painted MistyFuse had been ironed on. You can see how to print on fabric using Scratch Foam by clicking here for the tutorial.
There are endless possibilities when it comes to using a rubber stamp pressed into Model Magic to make these emblems. These are one of my new favorite things!
Here's the bonus video that shows how you can paint Warm & natural batting. Add a little color as I did or make yours really vibrant by adding more paint. |
