Canvas Fabric Little Book of Love... This project tutorial has three videos.  The first will show you how to make the book cover and pages.  Video 2 is about creating coordinating elements that you can use to assemble visually pleasing pages.  The third video can be seen here and discusses the importance of layers and color to create cohesive pages.  I hope that you have fun making your own Little Book of Love!

S U P P L I E S

Canvas Fabric  **  Gesso.  A 4 oz bottle will be enough for a cover and 3 signatures or you can get an 8 oz jar if you plan to make more  **  2" brush - part of a set of three sizes that you'll use all of the time  **  Disposable palette  **  Natural Sponge  **  Golden Paint - Titan Buff & Micaceous Iron Oxide are the main colors I use, though you'll see another version of the book that used Cobalt Turquois & Quinacridone/Nickel Azo Gold  **  Cheesecloth  **  Silk Velvet  **  Color Wash Dye  **  Dye-na-Flow  **  140# Strathmore Visual Journal  **  Stacey ShapeFlex 101 fusible stabilizer  **  A set of Alphabet stamp set  I use them to stamp words, phrases, etc.  They were used on the cover and pages and are very handy to have!

Part 1  Making the cover and pages

Part 2  Creating color coordinated papers, fabric, and more

Gesso + Titan Buff + Micaceous Iron Oxide = an aged page!

The arrows are pointing to the burst effect that happens when you spritz water on the paint before it's dried.

This is another piece I made prior to filming the video.  Once everything dried I sprayed the entire sheet with one of my own blends of Perfect Pearls Mists that features a lot of turquoise Perfect Pearls.  I love these colors!

A heart that I cut from a different piece of watercolor paper that was created as outlined in the video.  I edged the piece with a Krylon gold leafing pen to finish it off.

Some other examples of paper in the first photo above.  The bottom one is of a piece of leftover canvas that I painted.  Use the scraps of everything you have.  Layers of all kinds are really important to creating pages that have depth and capture yhe imagination!

After we finished filming the video I spent some time adding color to more cheesecloth and silk velvet.  I tend to create a bunch of fabric at once so I have various colorways available when my muse insists it's time to create!

Create various kinds of elements; paper, fabric, lace, and anything you like that you can audition on a page.

The beginnings of a layout for a page.  The middle photo above is the backside of the turquoise batik print.  I always fuse stabilizer to the bottom most layer for stability.  That way I can stitch on it, glue to it, etc and it'll be sturdy enough to support those techniques.

The cover and...

One of the inner pages. Both feature rubberstamping on Angelina and fabric, painted Venise lace, cheesecloth, and silk velvet.  The third video will discuss these techniques as well as how to put elements together to create attractive, cohesive pages.  Layers, layers, layers!!

These are the samples I made using Quinacridone/Nickel Azo Gold and Cobalt Turquis.  I'll use them in the third video when I show you how to assemble the book.
