Beautiful Bows!

Beautiful bows are easy!  Follow the simple steps below and with a little practice, you'll have beautiful bows in no time.

To make this bow, you'll need at least 2 yards of 1 1/2" wide ribbon and a 12" piece of floral wire.
Narrower widths of ribbon require slightly less, wider widths will require more.

Since a bow is really a knot, we'll use knot-tying terminology when referring to the parts of the ribbon you're working with.

For this bow, leave about 6" to 8" at the running end and make a bight as shown above.

Where your fingers pinch the ribbon together will be the center of the bow.
We'll be making a total of 4 bights (using ribbon from the standing end) on each side of where your fingers pinch.

The second and third bights should be the same size as each other, and slightly longer than the first bights.

The fourth bight should be the longest.

Using the running end, wrap a small loop around your thumb...

...and hold it in place with your thumb.

Scrunch the bights together and thread a piece of floral wire (approximately 12") under the loop.

Thread the wire to the halfway point and then fold the ends towards the back of the bow.  Twist the wire together to secure it.

Fluff out the bow by spreading the 2nd and 3rd bights apart as shown.  The 1st and 4th bights stay at the center.

The result is a beautiful bow!

Make this a fuller bow by adding more bight is even numbers (so that you can spread them apart the way that bights 2 and 3 were spread apart).
