Beautiful Bows!

Beautiful bows are easy!  Follow the simple steps below and with a little practice, you'll have beautiful bows in no time.

To make this bow, you'll need at least 2 yards of 1 1/2" wide ribbon.
Narrower widths of ribbon require slightly less, wider widths will require more.

Since a bow is really a knot, we'll use knot-tying terminology when referring to the parts of the ribbon you're working with.

For this bow, leave about 6" to 8" at the running end and make a bight as shown above.

Where your fingers pinch the ribbon together will be the center of the bow.  Make 3 same-sized bights (using ribbon from the standing end) on each side of where your fingers pinch.

What you should have should like like this from a side view.

To create a neat pinch or pleat in the center, fold the ribbon in half...

...then fold the sides back up to create a little accordian.

Secure the pleats by wrapping the running end around the center twice.

Tie an over-hand knot (like the beginning of tying your shoes) with the running end and the standing end to secure the twist at the center.

Begin arranging the bights.

The top-most bight will be the middle loop, the two below are fanned out.

The result is a beautiful bow!
