 Beaded Pen Tutorial
by Carol Murphy

Supplies:
1.  Rounded ballpoint pens such as inexpensive Papermate pens work well because they still write forever without having to replace the cap.  These pens will not accommodate a cap after they are decorated.

2.  Several colors and styles of No Hole beads and tiny seed beads.

3.  ¼ inch  Therm-O-Web Supertape

4.  A good strong white glue such as The Ultimate

*** I find it easier to pour the beads into a box lid and then you can roll the item around inside the lid- this helps to contain the beads and also covers the item better. ***

Step 1:  Starting at the tip, wind the tape around the pen in a candy cane fashion.

Unpeel the red lining from the tape and roll the item in one color of beads, covering the entire taped area.  Rub the pen between your palms to get rid of excess beads.

Step 2:
Starting with the tip again, go “in-between” the already beaded tape with another strip of tape- Unpeel and this time roll the pen in a different color of beads.

You can repeat this to make some rows wider than others, etc. If the pen is not completely covered, use a dab of glue and add some beads. Just remember to let this set up overnight. There should be about ¼ inch left at the tip for writing.

This is a really cute idea for party favors, wedding pens, gifts for teachers, family and friends.   Wrap it up with a box of handmade cards and what a nice gift  to cheer someone up!   Beautiful to set on your desk at work or at home.  Experiment with the idea and see what you can come up with!

If you want to try making these cool pens you'll need 1/4" wide Super Tape and no hole beads.  Click here for the Super Tape and here to see our Micro Beadz.
